On February 8th, 2024, the ALS Society of BC was recognized as a major donor to the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health at UBC at their 10th-anniversary event, celebrating excellence in brain research, education, and patient care. The Centre was established through a generous donation from the late Dr. Djavad Mowafaghian and has since evolved into a center of interdisciplinary neuroscience that integrates foundational and clinical research. With over 150 scientists, six clinics, five research programs, and several core facilities, the Centre has become a leading hub for advancing brain health across the lifespan.

The ALS Society of BC’s PROJECT HOPE initiative, which aims to support research and clinical care for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), and the ALS Centre currently at GF Strong, will soon be relocated to the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health at UBC. This move is set to boost the Centre’s capacity to conduct research and deliver clinical care to those affected by ALS.

The Centre has become a vital resource for advancing knowledge of brain health and treating neurological disorders. The relocation of the ALS Centre to the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health is a testament to the Centre’s commitment to providing a comprehensive approach to brain health research and care.
